Fashion Friday #3: Bright & Blue

Standard

Outfit Details:
Shirt-dress: Thrifted
Belt: Mall
Leggings: Walmart
Shoes: Gifted

I was out thrifting with Bradley and Miss Kate when we spotted this brand new shirt-dress, bright as day with tags all a-hanging, sitting all alone at the very end of an aisle. I had considered and dismissed it, assuming its size to be a bit off, but my wonderful boyfriend knows when to encourage me to try something on. I was pretty darn pleased with the fit.

The only problem I’m encountering is, as you’ll see in the very last picture, that space between the buttons just above my belt keeps trying to give the world a peek inside. I’ve tried safety pinning this shut and I’ve considered glue dots, but I’m afraid the glue will stick there forever. Maybe I just need to fiddle with it a bit longer. Any ideas?

I gotta say I’m loving my silhouette here. I’ve thrifted another shirt-dress after being so inspired by this one, and I can’t wait until it’s outta the wash and into my closet. I’ve managed quite a few great finds since we’ve been shopping around to improve Brad’s wardrobe; I’m excited to share! These shoes were another great hand-me-down from Katie.

Thanks for stopping by for another Fashion Friday! Enjoy your weekend!

Wednesday WINspiration: Handmade Gauges

Standard

Our second edition of Wednesday WINspiration is all about handmade earrings for people with stretched ears! So far the market is not very vast for this form of body jewelry, especially if you’re the type that would rather buy something a little more personal and a little more creative, so today I’d like to introduce you to 3 people selling their own handmade treasures especially for your ears.

1. Our first set is handmade by Andreanna of an awesome shop called Glamasaurus! While Glamasaurus is chock full of kawaii jewelry and accessories, you will find the items featured here in her alternative shop, Glam². Glamsquared specializes in unisex jewelry such as plugs and cufflinks, and it is full of imaginative cameos, elegant details, and a little bit of geek chic.

2. This beautiful set is handmade from spent copper casings by Curtis of Curtis Copper Concepts! I’ve always been able to appreciate how beautiful yet deadly a single round can be. These plugs are especially edgy and also masculine. I love that he’s recycling something used into something gorgeous, and I’m definitely loving them with the added glitz of Swarovski crystals. Did I mention those are reversible? At Curtis’ shop you’ll also find a great selection of handmade copper bird-feeders and art.

3. The third shop in this collection was made by Sasha of Pierced & Belligerent! These were especially hard to choose from because there were just so many options! If you’re into clay spirals & plugs, steel tunnels with pictures, fakes, or just something really fierce, you should give this shop a look-through. She does tons of custom creations, and I’ve also found that Sasha has a knack for crochet!

I’d like to thank these three folks for allowing me to show off their awesome designs!

These shops feature some very special handmade creations for folks with alternatively-sized ear-piercings. I hope they’ve awed and inspired you this Wednesday! Thanks for reading!

Fashion Friday #2: One with Nature

Standard

Hey there! It’s been a few weeks since I last posted an outfit of mine, so today I’d like to welcome you back to Fashion Friday #2! You may have seen this outfit around before, as I wore it on my birthday, at my family reunion, and even on the very first day that I met Brad. I truly cannot get enough of this dress.

Pictures today are by the handsome Mr. Bradley, but the last one is by the lovely Miss KT.

Outfit Details:
Dress: thrifted
Necklace: handmade by Miss KT
Belt: thrifted
Shoes: thrifted

The best part of this outfit? It probably cost me all of $15. I almost feel naughty wearing it in public.

In all seriousness, this outfit would not be complete without this stunning birthday necklace from KT. She has this impeccable taste for picking out stones, and I’m very lucky to be a recipient of her creative endeavors. Every necklace she has made for me has been nothing short of beautiful. Thanks, Katie!

Oh, and remember when I promised to add a picture to my new about page? Well, my image is finally uploaded, so check it out for yourself! Thanks for reading, and have a fashionable Friday, folks!

Haircut Ideas

I’ve been mulling over a new haircut for quite some time now, and I have some ideas brewing that I really wanted to share!

  1. I miss having a mohawk! When I met Bradley, I was sporting a super-cute “chelsea-hawk” and I’ve been debating returning to a similar cut for quite some time. This photo definitely inspires me to go back.
  2. If I were to return to the ‘hawk, I would like the sides cut to about this length. From experience I know that with how thin and fine my hair is, it won’t look much better than a comb-over if my mohawk is draped over a bare-shaved head.
  3. Add some nice blunt bangs to keep it looking femme. I think the color of the hair in this picture is close to what I would like to dye mine to. Or possibly black.
  4. I’m absolutely loving this dip-dyed ponytail on Lauren Conrad. I would like to do this, but with a shade of neon yellow-green to match my work uniform. I might consider dying the shorter sections of the mohawk this color, as well.

Happy hump day! I hope the rest of your week is lovely, and if I do happen to finally get my hair cut, I’ll certainly be posting pictures! Thanks for reading!

Resources for Blogging

Standard

“Countess Nákó blogging, after Friedrich von Amerling” by Mike Licht on flickr

Hey, fellow bloggers! In my effort to make my blog a better place, I’ve been digging up some resources on design, content, productivity, and sponsor information. While I may not be ready to tackle all of these things at once, I thought it would be a great idea to share some of my favorite blogging resources with you and put these out there for my own reference! Since my blog focuses on a few things, such as my lifestyle, crafts, my creative business, fashion, design, and pretty much whatever I can think of, I’ve chosen some articles and videos from blogs that fall into a few different categories and that are written by some bloggers that I really love. Let’s get started!

Two of my favorite bloggers ever, Elycia from Love, Elycia and Chantilly of My Girl Thursday have teamed up to make some very helpful vlogs that address some questions you may have about blogging. A few of my favorite are:

I think the reason I appreciate these videos so much is that you can really tell that these girls are blog-reading-bloggers. At one point, Elycia says that she was blogging for almost a year before reaching out in the blogging community. This really resonates with me as I have a hard time being social, and I hope to be able to use my blog to really branch out someday. While we’re on the subject of Elycia, though, she has another great post on her blog in which she gives you a peek at how she organizes her Blog Planner! I certainly love learning about another’s creative process!

If you’re more interested in blogging about fashion, then you may want to check out the expansive community on heartifb.com. This blog is filled with TONS of information that applies to more than just “Independent Fashion Bloggers.” Here’s a few great posts to get you hooked:

If you’re more of an “I-want-to-promote-my-creative-business-through-my-blog” type of blogger, then Handmadeology.com is for you. Instead of crawling through the Handmadeology archives for a relevant list of links, they already have one prepared for you: Your Blog Promotion Checklist!

Of course, maybe you’re a fan of A Beautiful Mess and would like some tips from someone who has been at this for awhile now. If so, you might be interested in:

I am also a huge fan of Meagan Visser, a very busy creative business entrepreneur and coach, and head of MeaganVisser.com. She has a great post on her site, 5 Ways to Make Your Business Blog Brilliant and has written a wonderful guest post on Oh My! Handmade titled Make Your Blog Bloom With Loyal Readers.

So let’s say you want less jabber and a little more info on how to do-it-yourself? Then maybe you’ll be inspired by The Blog Stylist, with a very extensive list of Blogging Resources.

And last, but certainly not least, I’ve started a new board on Pinterest to quench my neverending thirst for blogging knowledge, Blogging 101. Be sure to check this out and feel free to follow me for more links to some great blogging resources!

Thanks for reading! Are there any resources you’d like to share that are meant to aid and inspire other bloggers?

What I Packed

Standard

Hello, internet! It’s that time again that I’ve been whisked away for work. If you’re as absent-minded as me, every time you plan to be out of town for a little while, your brain panics and starts yelling “WHAT SHOULD I BRING?” So, here’s a list to my future self and anybody else who’s curious about what a little lady packs when she’s leaving for a construction job.

For this sort of a trip, I need to have about a week’s worth of clothing, and I need to put fashion completely out of my mind. My job requires me to be prepared to withstand all weather situations, usually for 8-12 hours per shift, so I’ve picked these items based on comfort and layerability.
